Top FAQs for using our National Dial-Up Network:
Q. I'm in a hotel and it keeps saying my number is long distance
A: Check with the front desk and make sure they have it programmed into their system as a local number. If it is not tell the front desk that you are dialing a local number and they need to add it to their PBX (switchboard) system. If they have questions about its legitimacy of the phone number have the hotel try it on a direct dial line without the area code. When the call is placed they will hear the local modem bank trying to negotiate the connection (it will sound like a fax machine.) If it was a long distance phone number they would get an operator error stating that they need to dial the area code.
Q: After my computer dials, it keeps asking for my username and password
A: The most likely cause of this is that the username should not be your whole email address, for instance: instead of putting in joe@wyoming.com you should be putting in joe for the username.
Q. When my computer dials I get the error
"The computer you are dialing could not establish a connection"
A: The most likely reason is that the phone number is entered incorrectly; do not put the area code in separately. Uncheck the Dialing Rules and enter in the 10 digit number in the PHONE NUMBER section. In addition, if you are dialing out of a hotel, 9,,,, must proceed the 10 digit number.
Q: I'm trying to SEND mail and I keep getting an error.
The most common answer is that the outgoing messages need to AUTHENTICATE, this is a setting.
If you are using Outlook Express go to Tools > Accounts > Mail > Properties > Servers At the bottom put a check mark in the box that says My server requires authentication.
